Dj City Kid

DJ CITY KID, was born in Washington, DC. He grew up in Vauxhall, NJ listening to the funk/soul music of the early 70's.  Intrigued by the vibes of DJ George Potter, City Kid learned to mix on two turntables at the age of 13 under his guidance. Looking back City kid States there was a dude named Mark Thompson who helped him polish up his skills on blending tracks and counting beats.  City Kid has been privileged to have mentors like Vernon Roberts, Phase III aka DJ Butch, and Larry Morman. It wasn't until he went to his first night club "New Experience" and watching his mentor Mark Thompson mix on three turn tables and a reel to reel player, that he declared "this will be me someday".  Experiencing the house scene at the "Paradise Garage" and listening to resident DJ Larry Levan, City Kid learned that is wasn't all about the mix but about the music and how you as the DJ present it to the masses. City Kid spent the next four years serving in the Army. While stationed in Germany, and taking his ideals of DJ'ing he began spinning in several Night Clubs and RAVES throughout Europe such as “The Funkadelik, and Club Cookies. To quote him “It’s the way you control the music,  puts you in complete control of the crowed.  So, my advice to up and coming DJ’s out there is that it’s not always about your mix but the songs you play and how you play them…the right song played the right way will always move crowd.” ~ DJ City Kid
